Chris Akwarandu began his academic journey at St. Patrick's Secondary School in Emene, Enugu. Driven by his passion for the arts, he enrolled at the University of Jos, where he successfully completed a Bachelor's degree in Theatre/Communication from January 1985 to January 1989. However, his thirst for knowledge continued, leading him to return to the University of Jos to pursue a Master of Arts in International Law and Diplomacy, which he accomplished from January 1991 to January 1993. Additionally, he obtained a certification as a Master Trainer in Breastfeeding and Lactation Management Nutrition from UNICEF, enhancing his skills in that area.

Chris Akwarandu's father is named Omelakaya Chris Akwarandu, and his mother was Lolo Anastasia Akwarandu. They were married on May 1, 1960, and celebrated their 60th marriage anniversary in 2020. Unfortunately, Lolo Anastasia Akwarandu passed away in November 2021. Chris Akwarandu's father is still alive, and his sister Jane takes care of him. He also has another sister named Mrs. Assumpta Ejim, who was born with the last name Akwarandu. When announcing his mother's death on Facebook, Sir Chris Akwarandu wrote, "May the soul of Lolo Anastasia Erinma Akwarandu (Pillar) rest in God!"
