Safin De Coque, also known as Darlington Akanite, was born on October 26th. He is a musician from Ezinifite, Nnewi South, Anambra State, belonging to the Igbo ethnic group in Nigeria. Safin De Coque is the son of Oliver Sunday Akanite, a renowned Nigerian Highlife Legend popularly known as Oliver de Coque.

Safin De Coque was born and raised in Ezinifite, a town located in Nnewi South, Anambra State, Nigeria. He is the second son of the late Nigerian highlife legend, Chief Oliver de Coque. Safin De Coque's family has a strong musical background, as his brothers, Oliver Sunday Akanite Junior and Chinedu Akanite, are also professional musicians.

After completing his high school studies, he enrolled at Ebonyi State University to pursue a degree in Theatre and Media Arts. Safin De Coque initially started his music career as a hip-hop artist. He had been involved in music since he was ten years old, but it was when he turned 20 that his father officially introduced him to the music industry.

 

His breakthrough came when he performed a remix of his father's popular 1970s hit track called "Funny Funny Identity" at a concert. The management of Dozage Records recognized his talent and signed him to their label.

 

In 2014, Safin De Coque released songs like "Biri kam Biri" and "Nwafo Nwafo," which featured Phyno. These songs reflected his roots and his journey in the hip-hop world.

 

However, in recent times, he made a switch to highlife music to revive his late father's musical legacy. This decision was influenced by the pressure from his fans, who wanted him to honor his father's genre and not let the traditional ogene music fade away.
