Eugene De Coque Akanite best known as Eugene De Coque is a renowned Igbo highlife musician, was born in the 1950s in Ezinifite, a town in the Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria. Born into a family of musicians, Eugene was the younger brother of the late Oliver De Coque, a well recognized highlife legendary musician, and had two other brothers named Gaius Ankanite and Safin De Coque Akanite.

Early Life 

 

 

Despite coming from a modest background, Eugene displayed strong passion for music from a very young age, using his pocket money to purchase his first guitar and starting to play at an early stage of his life.

 

 

 

Education

 

 

Eugene De Coque went to Nnewi High School in his hometown. After that, he continued his studies at the University of Southern California in the United States.

 

 

 

Family 

 

 

Eugene De Coque, a musician, was married to a woman from a different racial background. They had a total of six children: three boys and three girls. All of their children currently live in the United States. Eugene was the younger brother of the late Oliver De Coque, another renowned musician. He also had two other brothers named Gaius Ankanite and Safin De Coque Akanite.

 

 

 

Music Career

 

 

Eugene started his musical journey by creating his first band, which performed at school functions and parties. Eventually, he relocated to the United States and teamed up with his brother, Oliver, to form a new band. Eugene's music was strongly influenced by the Igbo culture and traditions, and it struck a chord with people in Nigeria and around the world. Some of his well-known songs include "Do Good," "United Citizens of Umuhu Okabia, and Akpuru Akpu Ga Erukwa Ozo."
