Okey Bakassi, born on October 23rd, 1969, in Owerri, Imo State, to Mr. Livinus Onyegbule, a retired military personnel, and Mrs. Felicia Onyegbule, a nurse, is a well-known Nigerian stand-up comedian and actor. Now at 55 years old, he has earned acclaim for his contributions to comedy and acting.

Early Life and Education

Okey Bakassi, originally from Mbaise, Imo State, spent his formative years in Owerri. He completed his early education at Alvan Ikoku Demonstration School, followed by Mbaise Secondary School and Federal Government College, Port Harcourt. After securing his West African Senior School Certificate, Okey pursued a Bachelor's Degree in Agricultural Engineering at Rivers State University of Science and Technology, graduating in 1992. Subsequently, he fulfilled the compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Programme in Lagos State.

 Career

Driven by his passion for Theatre Arts, Okey Bakassi founded a group named “Theatre Kolleagues” during his university days. While serving in the Nigerian Industrial Development Bank during his NYSC, he crossed paths with movie producer Zeb Ejiro, marking the initiation of his acting journey. Okey has actively participated in various international comedy shows and Nollywood movies. Notably, in 2014, he earned the Best Actor in a Leading Role (Igbo) award at the Best of Nollywood Awards for his performance in the film “Onye Ozi.”

Currently, Okey Bakassi is immersed in stand-up comedy, hosting the daily show "It's Okay with Okey" on Lagos Talks 91.3fm and "The Other News" on Channels TV. Celebrating his 25th year in the industry on April 22nd, 2018, he played a pivotal role in co-founding the renowned "Night of a Thousand Laughs" comedy show.

Okey Bakassi has enjoyed 17 years of marital bliss with his wife, Ezinne, and together, they have three children. Their family has chosen to call Canada home, where Ezinne works.
