From a young age, Ray developed a passion for acting. While his siblings were away at boarding school, he would spend his time practicing acting alone. Ray Emodi finished his primary and secondary education in Nigeria before relocating to the United Kingdom. There, he pursued a degree in Business Management and International Strategic Enterprise at Nottingham Trent University.

Afterward, Ray Emodi went to California to further his education in acting at the New York Film Academy.

Movie Career

After returning to Nigeria from the United States, Ray Emodi began his acting career in Nollywood. However, before that, he appeared in a few international short films such as "You Dont Say" (2014), "Eye on the Ball" (2014), and "Animus" (2015), where he portrayed the character of Officer Wright.

In 2017, Ray had a significant breakthrough when he met Mary Remmy Njoku, who recognized his talent and offered him a role in the movie "Unfinished Business." This marked the start of his journey in Nollywood. Since then, he has landed various roles, often playing lead characters in films like "Heaven on My Mind" (2018), "Caught in Between" (2018), "The Devil Within" (2019), "A Call From The Past" (2020), and "Caught Up" (2020).

When Ray Emodi first visited Rok Studios with the hope of landing an acting role, little did he know that it would lead to great recognition. He was born into a wealthy Catholic family that valued morality and education. His mother, Joy Emodi, was a highly motivated woman who pursued her law degree while also running businesses and raising children. She didn't let the male-dominated political world deter her, and she became a senator for the Anambra North Federal constituency on February 20, 2005, after Emmanuel Anosike's election was nullified. She was re-elected in 2007, but Alphonsus Obi Igbeke contested her second term. After a lengthy legal battle, he was declared the winner in 2010. Joy went on to serve as a presidential adviser.

His father, the late Dr. Okey James Emodi, met Joy when he was a young lecturer and she was a geography student at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. They fell in love and got married in 1980 in London. Dr. Emodi's support played a crucial role in shaping Joy into the successful woman she has become. Despite their wealth, they ensured their children were raised with solid discipline. Dr. Emodi passed away at 77 and was buried in September 2020.

Controversy

Nollywood actor Ray Emodi has found himself in a controversy after being accused by fellow actress and producer Rossy Adigwe of failing to fulfill a movie role for which he was paid N700,000 (roughly $1,700 USD).

According to Rossy, four days after she paid Ray, he backed out of his acting obligations. Rossy had been informed by Ray that another producer was also interested in casting him, and he would commit to whoever paid him first. In order to secure his participation, Rossy paid him before she had finished writing her script.

However, when Ray saw the full extent of his role in the script, he decided to pull out of the project and promised to return the N700,000. Rossy was puzzled by Ray's decision to take three weeks to process the refund.

Adding to the complexity of the situation, Rossy alleges that Ray blocked her phone number one month after she made the payment. This action, she says, has had a negative impact on her career and forced her to stop her film production.

In an emotional video posted on social media, Rossy pleaded with Ray to give her the money back.

In response, Ray Emodi posted a video on his Instagram page explaining his side. He stated that the refund was issued to someone else's account, not his, and if his actions had caused any harm, he was sorry. He said, "The account I paid her is not my account; listen, if I offend you, I'm sorry."
