Nnamdi Kanu is a renowned British-Nigerian political activist,he is the founder and leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). He founded IPOB in 2014. He was born on September 25, 1967 in Isiama Afara Ukwu, Umuahia, Abia State a southeastern part of Nigeria.

Kanu's father, Eze Israel Okwu Kanu, was a traditional ruler in Umuahia, and his mother, Ugoeze Sally Nmeme Okwu-Kanu, was a teacher. Kanu spent his early years in Nigeria before moving to the United Kingdom in the late 1990s, where he later became a British citizen.

In the UK, Kanu became involved in activism, particularly in issues related to the self-determination of the Igbo people of southeastern Nigeria. He founded the Radio Biafra platform in 2009, which he used to broadcast messages advocating for the independence of Biafra from Nigeria.

Kanu's activism and calls for the independence of Biafra gained him a large following both in Nigeria and among the Igbo diaspora. He was eventually arrested by Nigerian security forces in 2015 and charged with terrorism-related offenses. He spent over a year in detention before being granted bail in April 2017.

However, Kanu's bail conditions were later revoked, and he fled Nigeria in September 2017, claiming that his life was in danger. He resurfaced in Israel a few months later, and from there, he continued to advocate for the independence of Biafra and criticize the Nigerian government.

In June 2021, Kanu was arrested by the Nigerian government and extradited to Nigeria to face trial for his activism and agitation for the independence of Biafra. His arrest sparked widespread protests in southeastern Nigeria, with many calling for his release and the restoration of Biafra.

Throughout his activism, Kanu has been a controversial figure, with some regarding him as a champion of the Igbo people's cause and others criticizing him for his methods and rhetoric. Despite this, Kanu remains a prominent voice in the debate over the self-determination of Biafra and the rights of ethnic minorities in Nigeria.

Kanu is a father of two and a devout Christian. He holds a degree in economics from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a master's degree in politics and international relations from the University of London.
