Born as Obiora Nwokolobia-Agu on June 9, 1977, in Enugu, Nigeria, Obiora Obiwon discovered his love for music at a young age, around 5 years old, while singing along to HipHop and R'n'B tunes on his elder brother's cassette tapes. His father, Sir Humphrey Nwokolobia-Agu, was a folk and classical music composer from Eastern Nigeria.
By the age of 15, Obiwon delved into songwriting and began performing in local streets and hangouts. He graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) in 2001, studying Agricultural Extension, all while honing his recording and live performance skills in the music scene of Eastern Nigeria.
In 2002, after moving to Lagos for the National Youth Service Corps, Obiora Obiwon started his career as a bank employee. Simultaneously, he pursued a recording career in a HipHop group called Thorobreds. During this time, he adopted the name "Obiwon," given to him by a favorite uncle.
Their group, Thorobreds, won Best Rap Group at the 2005 HipHop World Awards. Obiwon's debut album, "Overture" in 2006, included the hit ballad "Onyinye." He transitioned to Christian/Gospel music in 2008, releasing "The Rebirth" in 2009. Notable songs include "F.a.t.h.e.r," "Victorious," and "Obi Mu O."
In 2013, Obiwon received his first gospel music award for "F.a.t.h.e.r 2.0." His album "Gold Water" in the same year earned recognition at the Crystal Awards and Nigerian Gospel Music Awards. His 2015 release, "Floodgates: The Beginning Of The New Overflow," marked his 10th career anniversary. Obiwon has since continued to contribute to the Christian music scene with singles like "A Billion Halleluyah," "Surge," and "The Life Of Testimony."
Obiwon tied the knot with Nkechi Obioma Ezeife on October 22, 2011. They are blessed with a daughter named Nmesioma Michelle, born on September 4, 2012, and a son named Chimdalu Michael, born on September 23, 2014.
