Jackline Acheampong, professionally known as Gyakie or Song Bird, is a Ghanaian R&B and afro-fusion sensation born on December 16, 1999, in Kumasi, Ghana. At the age of 24, Gyakie has carved her name in the music industry with her soulful voice and captivating melodies.

Early Life and Education

 

 

Raised in Kumasi, part of the Ashanti Region in Ghana, Gyakie's journey began early in the studio with her father, Nana Acheampong, a well-known musician. Gyakie attended T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School in Kumasi and pursued her undergraduate studies at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), majoring in International Business.

 

 

 

Career

 

 

 

With a musical heritage embedded in her family, Gyakie embarked on her professional music journey at the tender age of eight. Influenced by iconic artists like Asa and Omar Sterling of R2Bees, she released her debut single, "Love is Pretty," in February 2019. Subsequently, she introduced "Never Like This" and gained widespread recognition with her five-track EP, "Seed," in August 2020.

 

The EP's standout track, "Forever," became a sensation, dominating airwaves in Ghana, Kenya, and Nigeria. The song reached remarkable heights, topping charts such as Billboard's Top Triller Global and Shazams Top 200 charts. Gyakie continued her success with a remix of "Forever" featuring Nigerian artist Omah Lay in March 2021.

 

Gyakie's achievements were duly acknowledged when she was named the Emerging Woman of the Year at the 2021 3Music Women's Brunch. In March 2022, she earned the prestigious Woman of the Year title at the 3Music Awards Women's Brunch, solidifying her status in the music scene.

 

Signing an international record deal with Sony Music Entertainment, RCA Records UK, and Sony Music Africa further propelled Gyakie into the global spotlight. In June 2022, she was featured on Grammys Herbal Tea and White Sofas interview series. The same month, Gyakie released her second EP, "MY DIARY," featuring a collaboration with Nigerian musician Davido.
