Buchi Atuonwu, widely known as Buchi, is a versatile Nigerian singer, songwriter, reggae artist, poet, and author. Born on June 24, 1964, in Kaduna, Nigeria, he has made significant contributions to the world of gospel and reggae music.

Buchi, originally from Abia State, Nigeria, was born into the vibrant city of Kaduna. He attended Methodist College Uzuakoli and Federal Government College, Enugu, both located in the southeastern part of Nigeria. Buchi pursued higher education at the University of Lagos, earning a bachelor's degree in English Language and Literary Studies in 1986. He later obtained a second degree and embarked on a journey in academia, lecturing at the same institution while pursuing his Ph.D.
Immersing himself in black activism during his university days, Buchi developed a keen interest in reggae music, viewing it as a powerful medium to voice opposition against oppression. Influenced by black activists like Dennis Bruts, Wole Soyinka, and Muta Baruka, he delved into literature that echoed the struggles of black communities.
Buchi's musical journey commenced as a Disc Jockey at the renowned Floating Bukka, a popular '80s Night Club located on a docked vessel at Marina, Lagos Island. Invited by Ras Kimono, he began making his mark in the music scene.
Residing primarily in Lagos, Buchi is happily married to Jane Atuonwu, and the couple has been blessed with four children. Notably, all of his children have actively participated in his musical projects. His 8th album, 'Normally,' features a song of the same name, showcasing the musical talents of his entire family.
