Uyu Effah, born in Cross River State, Nigeria, is the daughter of Lieutenant Commander Asido Bassey Effah, a commander in the Nigerian Navy. Her educational path led her through Hillside International Nursery & Primary School and Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Port Harcourt. Later, she pursued Genetics and Bio-Technology at the University of Calabar. The disciplined upbringing by her father, who had 14 children, played a crucial role in shaping her career.
Grace-Charis Bassey made her Nollywood debut in the 2005 TV series "Shallow Waters" and later gained attention in the reality show "Next Movie Star," finishing 5th. Beyond acting, she served as a television presenter for Sound City before establishing her own show, "Lunch Break with Belinda." The actress is also the CEO and founder of GCB Empire, a Nigerian clothing and fashion brand.
In 2022, her portrait by Iké Udé was showcased in the Nollywood Portraits exhibition at the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art.
